ELLE September 2012: Katy Perry

I started paying attention to Katy Perry with the release of the single "I Kissed a Girl" from her first mainstream album One of the Boys. Her youthful, playful message was well received by the general masses and had huge appeal. It caught my ear and had a nice groove. I started paying even more attention to her when she performed live at the 2010 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show singing "Teenage Dream," "California Gurls" and "Firework" from her second mainstream album, Teenage Dream. She had even appeared in some nice fashion editiorials around the release of this album which showed that she is great on stage and is also quite photogenic. She has an unusual sort of beauty to me, a quirky sort of style and pretty nice vocals.

Now with the re-release of her second mainstream album entitled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, she has included two additional tracks, "Part of Me" and "Wide Awake." I just love the fact that in the video for "Wide Awake" Katy Perry wears purple streaks in her hair (perhaps she is wearing purple hair extensions with purple washable dye added to her natural hair for blending in the video and a full purple-streaked wig for the magazine). This purple-streaked hairstyle really works for the gothic Harry Potter-inspired style and theme of the video and looks very modern for the Elle cover. Great editorial and superb videography. The music video for "Wide Awake" is perhaps one of her best videos and the song is surely a brilliant piece of artistry.

American artist Katy Perry is sizzling hot right now and she dresses the part for Elle Magazine as the September 2012 cover girl. I just love it when artists carry their video styling into the fashion magazines and their real life experiences into the lyrics of the songs.
