Balmain FW 2014 Womenswear (2)

Balmain is a French fashion house founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain. Oscar de la Renta led the fashion house between 1993 and 2002. Relatively unknown British designer Olivier Rousteing joined the label in 2009 right around the time the brand became extremely popular in magazine editorials and amongst celebrities and the elite class. Olivier Rousteing took over as head designer in 2011. And now, in 2014 he has turned my head and captured my attention!

The beautiful Balmain feature in the September 2014 issue of W Magazine with Rihanna, Iman and Naomi Campbell is top notch. The ladies look gorgeous! The fashions that compliment these beauties are straight off the Paris Fall/Winter 2014 runway. The exotic jewelry pieces and accessories are heavily influenced by African culture and are showcased with the elegance of possible heirloom pieces. Just lovely what he has done especially this season.

Balmain FW 2014 Womenswear (1)

British designer Olivier Rousteing is the current head designer for Balmain. This season's collection incorporates military-inspired fashion with true ethnic flair based on legendary urban trends. He jams it out with a super cool gothic remix of 50 Cents "Ayo Technology" featuring Justin Timberlake. Hot!

The over-sized large hoop bamboo earrings have me searching my jewelry box for my classic medium gold bamboo hoops that I have owned since the nineties. My mother is the main reason for me owning a pair that I treasure more than any other. She was with me when I purchased them and was firm in stating that these earrings are definitely for me. Something culturally African about them and just so true to the Black American experience. Now, for the 2014 fall/winter season, I need a pair of over-sized ones perhaps in solid black! Clever, clever. Just seeing these earrings displayed so prominently on some of the runway models makes me feel as if this particular designer has tapped into the spiritual essence of who I am as an extension of my mother and how I love for our image to be displayed. No sell out ... just honest, real fashion that makes sense.

The use of pop star Rihanna with mega-supermodel Naomi Campbell and historically significant model Iman in this month's W Magazine gives a sort of homage to sisterhood by displaying 3 generations of beautiful black women from various cultures. I just can't believe that Iman is 59 years old! Looking good ... ageless. These women model these designs with a sexy swagger that seems just so right. Sensational collection, runway show and magazine editorial for the house of Balmain!
